[30-03-2016 ] I paint and I draw a lot … on a corner table, whilst watching TV, when I have to wait. In those moments, I often take a handful of markers and paper with me.
For its ease of use, the marker remains tool No. 1 for creative people: illustrators, designers, architects, designers, Art students or children.
Recently, I’ve tested the latest new one from Winsor & Newton Brand, Pigment Marker, and it totally seduced me with its colors, its comfort and its line. I detail all this below.
Once upon a time Winsor & Newton
Winsor & Newton, a famous English brand of artists’ materials, was founded in 1832 in London by a scientist William Winsor and Henry Newton painter who had joined in order to develop colours for outside use (watercolor, oil, etc.).
A scientist and an artist, a perfect duo to develop a range for the Plastic Arts and Graphic Arts as well.

New generation of markers
Usually, most of the markers found in shops contain dyes. Winsor & Newton therefore triggers a small technological revolution by offering pigments which can hold nearly 100 years.
Pigment Marker :
- pure line, elegant, asymmetrical design
- lightweight and comfortable grip
- 100 colors + 24 shades of gray
- 2 blenders available (white, colorless)
- high quality pigments resistant to light
- markers with 2 peaks (fine and beveled)
MY VIEW: Mixing colours is really nice. I sometimes find the same feeling as when I work with pastels or paint. I appreciate being able to reactivate the nuances even when dry. It’s magic all those colors that remain active. And between us, I advise to store the markers horizontally to prevent leaks from the tips.
2 Blenders :
- The white (white titanium dioxide pigments)
- The colorless
They can:
- mix and create new colors
- soften or add highlights
- draw on colored paper
- correct or delete after several passages
MY VIEW: Always have on hand a paper pallet or draft sheet to wipe the tip of blenders and so remove any nuances that could colour the next blends.
Pigment Marker Paper
The performance of a marker depends on the properties of the paper you use. It is therefore necessary to choose its support especially if you want to optimize the marker functions (color absorption, retention of pigments and pH paper)
- Available blocks A3, A4
- Paper without acid.
- sublime and optimizes mixtures
MY VIEW: The wet ink remains slightly retained in paper surface which mixes the colors more easily. The colours do not penetrate the paper and do not stain the subsequent sheets. Point important when working with a block.
A friendly marker:
It is user friendly in the way that Pigment Marker mixes easily with other markers of the brand Winsor & Newton Water Colour Markers, ProMarker and BrushMarker.
I tend to draw as I paint, I mix and come back to the colors, layers, and I must say rather that Pigment Markers behave nicely!
